Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology
What we teach and treat
Accurate diagnosis, advanced imaging, compassionate care.
Oral medicine and radiology is the speciality of dentistry that diagnoses and manages diseases and conditions of the mouth and maxillofacial region, using maxillofacial imaging. The department's patient care, teaching and research cover the non-surgical management of orofacial disease and of systemic and behavioural disorders that affect oral health — orofacial pain and TMJ disorders, oral mucosal lesions, oral cancer and the complications of cancer therapy, salivary gland dysfunction and the oral effects of systemic illness. Established in 2006 with 16 dental chairs, it runs an orofacial pain clinic and, with the Department of Public Health Dentistry, a tobacco cessation centre. Its faculty publish in national and international journals, and undergraduate teaching uses case discussions, project-based learning, seminars and patient-education e-posters.
Diagnose precisely, treat compassionately.
