Journal of Advances in Oral Health
Guidelines for authors
About submissions
The Journal of Advances in Oral Health is the official peer-reviewed journal of Inderprastha Dental College & Hospital, published by IP Innovative Publication Pvt. Ltd. Issues are published twice a year.
Manuscripts must be prepared in accordance with the “Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals” developed by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). Submitting a paper means that it presents original, unpublished work — including the illustrations — that is not under consideration for publication elsewhere. The full text of every published article is free to read on our website.
Editorial policy
The editorial board reserves the right to make changes that clarify or condense papers where this is considered desirable. All submissions undergo a plagiarism check using VIPER detection software and online checks for duplication. Manuscripts suspected of plagiarism will be rejected and the corresponding author informed.
Processing and submission fees
There is presently no article processing or submission fee, and articles are free to read online. Printed copies of the journal are available on paid subscription from the publisher.
Types of submission
Original research, case reviews and invited reviews, clinical studies, academic notes and letters to the editor.
Covering letter
The first author must sign a covering letter accepting full responsibility for the paper, uploaded with the contributor’s form signed by all authors when submitting through the online portal (www.mprp.in/journals/JAOH).
Title page
The title page should give the type of manuscript, the title of the article, the names of the authors with academic qualifications and institutional affiliations, and the department(s) and institution(s) to which the work should be attributed. Include the name, address, phone numbers and email address of the author responsible for correspondence.
Manuscript
Submit manuscripts in a Microsoft Word–compatible format, in 12-point Times New Roman, double spaced. Avoid outline form (numbered or bulleted sentences and paragraphs). The manuscript should contain a title page, abstract, keywords, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, references, tables and figures, and legends for tables, figures and graphs.
Abstract and keywords
The second page should carry the full title and an abstract of no more than 150 words for case reports and brief reports, or 250 words for original articles. Structure the abstract under Statement of problem, Purpose, Materials and methods, Results and Conclusions. Avoid abbreviations and manufacturer information. Give 5–6 keywords below the abstract.
Introduction
Briefly review the current state of knowledge strictly concerning the topic of the paper, state why the study was undertaken and what it aims to achieve.
Materials and methods
Give enough relevant detail for the work to be repeated. Specify any statistical analysis used.
Ethics
When reporting experiments on human subjects, state whether the procedures followed the ethical standards of the responsible committee on human experimentation and whether informed consent was obtained. Research involving animals must follow the published ICMR guidelines for the use of laboratory animals.
Results
Present results in a logical sequence in the text, tables and illustrations. Do not repeat all the data from tables or illustrations in the text; emphasise or summarise only important observations.
Discussion
Emphasise the new and important aspects of the study and the conclusions that follow from them. Do not repeat in detail data given in the Introduction or Results. Discuss the implications of the findings and their limitations, including implications for future research, and relate the observations to other relevant studies. Avoid statements on economic benefits and costs unless the manuscript includes economic data and analyses. Recommendations may be included when appropriate. The last paragraph should begin “In conclusion,” and then draw the conclusions.
References
Follow the Vancouver style set out in the Uniform Requirements. Number references in the order in which they first appear in the text, with the numbers placed in superscript each time a source is cited.
Tables
Type each table double spaced on a separate sheet in Microsoft Word format, with an underlined title followed by a legend, if any.
Figures
Submit high-quality images at a resolution of 300 dpi. Photomicrographs should indicate the magnification. Mark special features with arrows or letters that contrast with the background, and type legends for all photographs on a separate sheet.
Case reviews
New, interesting or very rare cases can be reported; cases with clinical significance or implications are given priority. Up to 2,000 words excluding references and abstract, and up to 10 references.
Letters to the editor
Short, decisive observations — not preliminary observations that need a later paper for validation. Up to 400 words and 4 references.
Financial disclosure and conflicts of interest
Authors must disclose any conflict of interest, including direct or indirect financial interests in the materials or subject matter of the manuscript.
Submit your manuscript
Upload the manuscript, covering letter and signed contributor’s form through the publisher’s online submission portal, where you can also track its progress. There is no submission fee.
